Ear mites are small parasites that live in the ear canal of dogs and cats. Ear mites feed on the tissue debris and secretions of the ear canal. Ear mites can make life miserable for your dog and they are highly contagious.
A dog infected with earmites will often shake its head and continuously scratch at its ears. Not all dogs will show this behavior when infected so it is good to check in its ears often to look for a dry, dark brown, waxy discharge.
Ear mites are however easily treatable and the medicine is not too expensive. Be sure to treat all of the animals that are in close proximity to the infected dog. Usually a treatment with a miticide will take 3-4 weeks to eradicate the ear mites.
