How Big of a Dog Pen do I need?
June 24th, 2010
Many cowdog owners keep their dogs kenneled in small pens. A 3' X 4' pen suspended up off the ground with a shelter on the outside is about the minimum size that is used but it is common. Some of course use a larger pen especially if the dog is to be kept on the ground or on concrete. The bottom line in kennel size is that it does not make much difference as long he gets out to get plenty of exercise. Inside the pen he just needs room to stretch out , move around and stay clean. He is not going to get any exercise inside the pen anyway. If you will watch a dog in a big 20' by 20' or even larger pen, he will spend most of his time laying in one spot. The only time he gets exercise is when you let him out.
