Cowdog Balance Point

The balance point refers to where the dog is in relation to the cattle and the handler. With the herding breeds, balance is a natural instinct. A dog with strong balance will instinctively try to remain directly opposite of you while keeping the cattle between you and him. When he is gathering cattle and bringing them to you he is basically doing the same thing. If he has good balance, he will be correcting the direction of the herd while bringing them to try to keep them coming to you in as straight of a line as possible.
